Halite is a salt mineral, so never wash it with water, otherwise it will dissolve. If you want to clean it, use a hairdryer on a low temperature. The "Gemstone and Mineral Data Book" by John Sinkankas recommends for halite: "Clean with saturated solution of table salt or with nearly pure alcohol"

Keep halite on a dry place.
